The Lido Foundation provides the following services.
Information and Advice
We provide advice on welfare, benefits, housing, debt, application support to people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The service is open 3 days a week.
By signposting and advising residents, the Lido Foundation is reducing social exclusion. Instead of falling homeless or into other desperate circumstances, residents are advised how to prevent these crisis by obtaining necessary benefits, accessing jobs skills or relocating to more affordable housing before they fall into arrears.
The school runs every Saturday during term time and provides tuition and for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The teaching covers core national curriculum subjects including English, Maths and Science.
The teaching is delivered by qualified and experienced teachers. Through this provision the Lido Foundation has been able to significantly raise the educational attainment levels of these children.
Job Skills Training
Through a grant awarded by the Big Lottery’s Awards for All programme, the Lido Foundation ran the ‘Step Up’ project whereby it delivered Job Skills training and mentoring to women from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The content included how to write an effective CV, how to find vacancies and apply for a job, and prepare for and sit for a job interview.
The training is delivered to 10 participants at a time in 2 sessions. The training is very practical with participants working in teams with exercises.
By the end of the training every attendee would have written out their own CV and also sit a mock job interview.
Recreation & sports
The Lido Foundation organises evening football and swimming for young males over the age of 25. This is designed to help address high levels of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes within the Somali community.
